Semiconductor Center of Chungbuk Technopark, which was established to conduct prototype performance test, reliability evaluation, analysis for fabless companies in Chungbuk area recently decided to introduce MES (Manufacturing Execution System). The chief of the semiconductor center, Cheol-hyeong Cho, states, “We decided to introduce MES in order to improve efficiency and raise the rate of operation to the maximum even with the small number of working labors. He also adds “We will be able to automatically receive the information of operation status from MES as well as share reservation and operation status of each equipment. Accordingly, MES will enable us to substantially enforce customer service. MES, which has been introduced mainly to the manufacturing sites such as semiconductor, LCD, automotive, components, etc, is recently expanded to public organizations. In addition to Chungbuk Technopark, u-ITC Songdo and Korea Advanced Nono Fab Center have introduced or decided to introduce MES. Such a trend is occurring due to the fact that raising the efficiency of public organizations has become essential and the benefits of introducing MES are spreading rapidly. Korea Advanced Nano Fab Center commenced the business constructing total information system including MES in May 2006 and finished the business on March last year. Currently, they are managing equipments with the total information system and expanding customer service. The staff in Nano Fab Center explains “Since MES was constructed, the history of resources, equipments monitoring, real-time information have been effectively managed.” u-ITC Songdo which has RFID/USN related manufacturing fab and test center is due to complete the construction of MES as promoting the business called ‘u-IT Cluster Center Total Information System Construction’, following 2-year construction of customer support system and some systems of ERP, groupware, and MES. u-ITC Songdo selects Miracom, Inc consortium as their partner for the construction and plans to finish the product of u-ITC Songdo by this September. u-ITC expects to substantially increase the satisfaction index of customer service by sharing the information related to logistics and financial affairs in real time and establishing standard process, and standardizing management. MES specialized company, Miracom, Inc. states “The companies considering the introduction of MES are gradually increasing as the movement to efficiently manage the manufacturing and test facilities that universities or public organizations have is expanded.” They also expects “Introduction of MES by public organizations will be largely increased. MES is the solution tracing and managing production activities from order to production of finished goods and providing information in order to optimize the production.
